Edinburgh, Scotland Through the Eyes of the Artist
an art history/sketching workshop with Robert Liberace
April 1 – 9, 2012

Scotland Bureau of Tourism

Internationally recognized artist and Art League instructor, Robert Liberace, will lead a very special art history/sketching workshop in one of the great capitals of Europe, Edinburgh, Scotland.

Drawing and painting students who have experienced Rob's extremely successful workshops in London, Rome, Venice and Florence, Italy relate the wonder of experiencing the masterpieces from a new perspective: through the eyes of a master draftsman, painter and sculptor, as opposed to that of the art historian alone. Edinburgh and its environs is an alluring blend of incredibly wild and rugged landscapes, majestic castles, royal palaces and stately museums. Join Rob as he leads participants through a multitude of fascinating and historical locations including: The Queen’s Gallery at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh Castle, and more.

The year 2012 marks the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, and as a result there will be special exhibits and festivities throughout the UK commemorating her monarchy. "Treasures from the Queen's Palaces" at the Queen's Gallery is one such exhibit. Explore The Palace of Holyroodhouse, originally founded in 1128 as a monastery. Located at the east end of the Royal Mile it is the Queen's official residence when in Scotland and boasts an impressive collection of fine art masterpieces. Also included is an excursion to to one of Scotland's most iconic and famous castles, Eilean Donan (6th c.) Situated on the point of three sea lochs, it is one of Scotland's most beautiful castles and an artist's delight. The group will be located on the Royal Mile, near the Old Town area near Edinburgh Castle. This edifice dates from the Bronze age and has hosted royal courts since the 11th century. Sketching and exploration opportunities abound as you are located near the medieval part of the city, now protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
