Drum Point Lighthouse by Peter Ulrich
Join Peter Ulrich for a three-day, all-media painting excursion to Solomons Island in southern Calvert County, Maryland. This trip follows up on our October workshop with a new season and a new approach.
Situated on a sliver of land where the mouth of the Patuxent River meets the Chesapeake Bay, this quaint waterfront village offers many opportunities for plein air painting. Gardens, cottages, fishing vessels, sail boats and motor boats, not to mention the famous Drum Point Lighthouse are all possibilities. Drum Point, dating from 1883, is one of only three surviving screw-pile lighthouses from the original 45 that once stood sentinel on the Chesapeake.

Late April typically offers a breath of fresh air following winter's icy blast. The gardens will be filled with glorious early spring flowering shrubs, plants, and bulbs. Visits to Sotterley Plantation (circa 1703), the Calvert Marine Museum, and the Annmarie Sculpture Garden are all possible during your stay.
Peter Ulrich will demonstrate both his ink-and-watercolor sketchbook technique and his quick studies in watercolor and acrylic. A complimentary wine and cheese reception will be held the first evening. Solomons is about 60 miles from Old Town Alexandria, or a 90 minute drive.
Workshop fee: $210 per person, accommodations not included. Rooms have been reserved for our group at the Back Creen Inn B&B (pictured below). Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 703-683-1780 x13 for special rates and room not available online, or for more information about the workshop.
