Silver Jewelry

Learn how to design and create stunning jewelry from silver sheet and wire. Traditional tools and their uses are covered in depth. Layout, sawing soldering, forming, surface texturing, chain making, simple stone setting, and finishing are examined. Beginners and more advanced students benefit from individual attention as they build their jewelry skills. The classroom is equipped with an extensive assortment of jewelry tools, supplies, and machines. Personal tools and supplies are discussed during the first class. There is a $15 lab fee payable to the instructor at the first class. Students may rent basic tool kits for use at home for the duration of the class. Call the school office for more information about rental.

Pound It Out - All Things Hammered
Michael Brehl
Students learn to transform sheet copper, silver, or gold into hollow forms; a cone, cube, or sphere. Participants are also introduced to the art of repousse--an ancient techniques of working metal from both sides to create a bas relief sculptural surface. Emphasis is on using various types of hammers, steel forms, chasing and repousse tools, and soldering methods as students explore metalsmithing techniques that change metal into detailed jewelry containers, or small sculptures. A $15 lab fee is payable to the instructor at the first class.

Jump Into Metal Clay

This workshop provides an opportunity to learn about and experiment with the three types of metal clay - Precious Metal Clay (PMC), and the newest clays, BRONZclay and COPPRclay. Students will have the opportunity to make a pendant and/or earrings with each clay type, and learn the different properties, techniques, and finishing possibilities for all three. All levels are welcome. A $50 tool and materials fee, which includes enough clay for each project, is payable to the instructor. Additional tools and clay will be available for purchase.

Portrait Busts for Teens
Steve Prince
Students create a 3-dimensional life size, self portrait bust in clay that is fired with an underglaze. Working from photos, drawings and the mirror, human head proportions and clay modeling are covered. A $20 materials fee is payable to the instructor.

Introduction to Encaustic

Learn to paint with encaustic, a mixture of beeswax and pigment. Workshop covers a basic techniques of painting and fusing, transparent and opaque layering, scribing, image transfer, combining oil paint and wax, collage, tools, recommend supports and safety concerns. The two days include demonstrations and hands-on experience. Workshop fee includes materials, 4 supports, and use of equipment.

Still Life In Oil

Still-life painting offers a way to hone skills. This class includes demonstrations of blocking in a painting. Students construct a permanent palette and produce archival quality paintings. Participants work to express value, light, and space in their work. Layering and alla prima are also covered.

Portrait And Figure Painting

Students improve their observational skills and gain an understanding of color and value. Emphasis is on completing and refining ones work in oil or pastel painting. Model fees are extra. Supplies are discussed on the first day of class.
Art Fun-damentals (ages 5-8)

Children discover the world of texture, line, shape, and color as they create original artwork. A wide range of basic media skills are developed including painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, and sculpture. Each term expands the artistic horizon of the children, whether they are new to art or repeating the class. A $15 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the first class meeting. Students need to purchase a few basic supplies in addition to those in the fee.
