Silk Screen Printing

Silk screen printing can fill a page with color in a single stroke, or build layer upon transparent layer of intricate detail. Screen prints may be vibrant or subtle, sharp-edged, or brushy and textured. Students create hand-painted, hand-cut, and photographic stencils, then print through them using water-based non-toxic inks. Lab fee of $50, payable to the instructor, covers supplies.

Silver Jewelry

Learn how to design and create stunning jewelry from silver sheet and wire. Traditional tools and their uses are covered in depth. Layout, sawing soldering, forming, surface texturing, chain making, simple stone setting, and finishing are examined. Beginners and more advanced students benefit from individual attention as they build their jewelry skills. The classroom is equipped with an extensive assortment of jewelry tools, supplies, and machines. Personal tools and supplies are discussed during the first class. There is a $15 lab fee payable to the instructor at the first class. Students may rent basic tool kits for use at home for the duration of the class. Call the school office for more information about rental.

Pound It Out - All Things Hammered

Students learn to transform sheet copper, silver, or gold into hollow forms; a cone, cube, or sphere. Participants are also introduced to the art of repousse--an ancient techniques of working metal from both sides to create a bas relief sculptural surface. Emphasis is on using various types of hammers, steel forms, chasing and repousse tools, and soldering methods as students explore metalsmithing techniques that change metal into detailed jewelry containers, or small sculptures. A $15 lab fee is payable to the instructor at the first class.

Cartooning Camp
Is your child yearning for something new? Art camp provides a wonderful way of introducing children to several forms of visual art. In our basic art camp, each day brings a new project which may include drawing, painting, printmaking, or sculpture. In specialty camps, the focus is on immersing the children in one media. Camps come in w hole and half day sessions over a 3-5 day week. Tuition for all-day camps includes a supervised lunch hour. Create your own all-day session by combining a basic camp with a media specialty camp. When creating your own all-day session, there is an additional $35 per week charge for the supervised lunch hour. Campers in any all-day session should bring their own lunch for the midday break.
This camp explores the methods, techniques, and procedures which are used in the creation of comic strips and comic books. The focus is on t he basic principles of visual storytelling and drawing techniques that relate to the cartoon art form. All materials are provided.

Portrait Busts for Teens

Students create a 3-dimensional life size, self portrait bust in clay that is fired with an underglaze. Working from photos, drawings and the mirror, human head proportions and clay modeling are covered. A $20 materials fee is payable to the instructor.

Introduction to Encaustic

Learn to paint with encaustic, a mixture of beeswax and pigment. Workshop covers a basic techniques of painting and fusing, transparent and opaque layering, scribing, image transfer, combining oil paint and wax, collage, tools, recommend supports and safety concerns. The two days include demonstrations and hands-on experience. Workshop fee includes materials, 4 supports, and use of equipment.
