Meet the Juror

Mark Strandquist

Mark Strandquist has received multiple awards, fellowships, national residencies, and reached wide audiences through the NY Times, the Guardian, NPR, the Washington Post, PBS NewsHour, VICE, and many others. He currently directs the People’s Paper Co-op in Philadelphia, PA, and the Performing Statistics project in Richmond, VA. In 2016, he and his partner Courtney Bowles were awarded A Blade of Grass fellowship for Socially Engaged Art to begin the Philadelphia Reentry Think Tank.

As a writer he has presented at a multitude of conferences, contributes articles on contemporary photography to the website FeatureShoot, and co-edits and co-founded the website Photography as a Social Practice.

Strandquist teaches Art and Activism as a graduate lecturer at the International Center for Photography, is a Blade of Grass Fellow of Socially Engaged Art, and a co-recipient of the Moving Walls grant from Open Societies Foundation.
