"Bedtime Stories – Storytelling Through Art" will be offered as part of our programming for MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Children and the Arts. This exhibit will feature narrative works that invite the viewer to visually wander through the world the artist has created, whether real or imagined.

Tea is a channel of ritual, relic, and spirituality that connects cultures. Artists are asked to celebrate the organic diversity of ceramic form while exploring “tea” as the functional muse.

This exhibit is presented in tandem with the biennial Ikebana Show.

Are you interested in books about art and artists? Art League member, Rebecca McNeely, is organizing our new Art League book club. Our first book will be Off the Wall: A Portrait of Robert Rauschenberg by Calvin Tomkins. This easy to read book is a fascinating view of the New York art world from the 50’s to the 70’s.

The first meeting will be Tuesday, May 22, 1:00 pm in The Art League Gallery. This meeting will include a discussion of the book and planning for future meetings. Dastur has taught at The Art League since 2002 and also teaches for the Smithsonian Associates. She received her B.A. in Art History from Wellesley College and her M.F.A. in Oil Painting from American University. She has exhibited her narrative abstract works through-out the world and exhibits locally at Gallery Plan b in DC and Twelve Gates Gallery in Philadelphia.

Every two years, The Art League welcomes the Washington, DC branch of The Sogestu School for our biennial Ikebana Show in The Art League Gallery. This year, our gallery hosts the Ikebana Show in conjunction with the "Tea" Ceramics Exhibit.

The opening reception for the Biennial Ikebana Show and "Tea - Ceramics Exhibit." The reception will feature a musical performance by the Washington Toho Koto Society.

Sunday, June 3 is the final day for the Biennial Ikebana Show and "Tea - Ceramics Exhibit." The gallery closes at 6:00 pm.

Kate Fraser - Success As An Artist Seminar
2 Part Series: June 21, 6:00 - 9:00 pm and June 28, 6:00 - 9:00 pm in The Art League Gallery

This is a two-session seminar for Art League members designed to give practical information and advice towards a successful fine arts career. The fee to attend both sessions is $85 (signing up for a single session is not an option). The presenter, Kate Fraser, has given this seminar to hundreds of DC area artists, curators, teachers and other arts professionals since August of 1999.
