Instructor: Clara Graves
Surface Design & Dyeing
In 1999, after a career in graphic design, Clara began teaching herself to paint on silk. She soon began to take classes from leading artists who inspired her to render both representational and abstract images. Clara balances her silk painting with exploration in collage where she combines painted silk that she has created using various surface design techniques and then over paints to create a unified whole. Some of her newest work includes woven silk collages. Her paintings and colleges also have been exhibited and sold in numerous shows in the mid-Atlantic region as well as Santa Fe, New Mexico. Clara\\\'s award winning work is included in many private collections around the country. She recently had a solo exhibition in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Her work has appeared in various publications. As a select few include, SPIN, the silk painters International magazine, Fiber Art Now, Galleries Magazine, and in the book Fabric Printing at Home. Clara is a member of the Potomac Fiber Arts Gallery in the Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.
