Drawing Pad – 80 lb, size optional, but 18” x 24” is good
Hot Pressed Watercolor paper (the smooth kind), 9” x 12” or larger
Canvas, 16” x 20” or larger – canvas is optional; you may work on paper throughout the course if you like
Charcoal Pencils (2)
Charcoal Sticks, compressed
Vine Charcoal Sticks
Plastic (Regular) Eraser, white or pink
Charcoal Chunk (if you can find)
Different-sized brushes – filberts are good, but whatever you have as long as you have an assortment of small, medium and large
For Acrylic Artists:
Caran d’Ache Neocolor II Water Soluble Crayons – Payne’s Gray or a dark color, plus 2-3 saturated colors
Stabilo Woody Pencil – Black
1 – 8” x 10” plain white mat for picture frames
Acrylics Limited Palette: Titanium White, Carbon Black, Prussian Blue (or Golden brand Payne’s Gray), Yellow Oxide (or Yellow Ochre), Red Oxide
Acrylic Retarder or Extender
You will not need paint until Class #3, but this is the full list of supplies so you can pick them up as you like and are able.
In addition, for Class #2, we will be working with black and white collage, so please find and collect ONLY black and white magazine pages. Look for interesting patterns, dots, dashes, text, etc. Alternately, if you find interesting color pages you’d like to work with, I suggest you print them on a black and white copier and use just the black and white versions only.
