Abstract Painting (Oil or Acrylic)

Instructor: Bryan Jernigan
"Branches" by Bryan Jernigan
"Branches" by Bryan Jernigan

Tf you have taken Bryan Jernigan’s abstract painting class before or you have abstract painting experience, this advanced class will allow you to explore abstraction more deeply. You’ll forgo the basics, work independently, consult with Jernigan on approaches to accomplish the work you have in mind and get direct feedback on work in progress. The class accommodates experienced acrylic or oil painters. Each class will include warm-up exercises before students branch into their own pursuits; then Jernigan will filter through, giving specific guidance to each student. From broader discussions about color theory to in-depth explorations of the concept of “loud” and “quiet” conversations within the same painting, Jernigan will offer continuing students greater understanding of the abstract process.

A list of recommended supplies must be picked up from the School Store located in room 217 of the Torpedo Factory.

Covid Policy for Students in this Class

As of April 4, 2022, The Art League has lifted its visitor/staff/student Proof-of-Vaccination requirement for in-person class participants. If the CDC releases/recommends a 4th shot/booster for the general population, and widespread distribution makes these readily accessible, The Art League will consider reinstating this requirement. As of April 8th, 2022, given the current spike we’re reinstating mandatory masks for all students, staff and teachers.

Most supplies and supply lists may be obtained at The Art League Store in the Torpedo Factory, room 217.  The store hours are 11am – 5pm, Wednesday through Sunday. We offer curbside pickup at The Art League Store, allowing our customers to buy over the phone or online and then drive to our location at 105 North Union Street (or “curb”) to pick it up, without having to leave your car.
