This online class is for learners who have prior experience with East Asian Brush painting. Subject matter is chosen depending on the interests of the students and includes seasonal flowers, animals, birds, people, and landscape. Abstraction is explored. Various techniques are displayed and taught. In addition to free style sumi-é, the instructor demonstrates Japanese mineral pigment techniques, use of gouache on prepared boards and elaborate style painting and Japanese and Chinese calligraphy. Students’ independent projects are encouraged and assisted. If you do not know whether to take this class or the introductory class, contact the instructor for advice.
Supplies are required for this course. A list of recommended supplies may be obtained from the instructor at the first class meeting. Or, as a service to our students, most supply lists are kept on hand in the Art League Supply Store. The existence of this store gives students the opportunity to obtain supplies in advance and come to class prepared to work. The Art League Supply Store is in studio 217 at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, just around the corner from the Art League School Registration Office.
They are open 7 days a week for your convenience. Due to our large enrollment, we are unable to mail, fax, or read supply lists over the phone. It is the responsibility of the student to acquire their own materials.
