This in-depth exploration of color is essential to artists and designers, and useful to all who wish to communicate powerfully with color. Through hands-on projects, discussions, we investigate hue, value, and saturation; color interaction; and psychological experiences of color. Working in paint and other media, students learn a variety of studio techniques and presentation skills, developing artwork relating to their professional and personal interests. This class is taught on Zoom. A list of supplies and a kit available for purchase is listed below.

Color Theory for Artists and Designers with David Carlson
- 14″ x 17″ Bristol Board Tablet – vellum finish
- Assorted Acrylic paints:
– Cadmium Red Medium (don’t sub the Hue color)
– Naphthol Crimson Red Transparent
– Cadmium Yellow Medium (don’t sub the Hue color)
– Ultramarine Blue
– Pthalocyanine Blue Transparent
– Pthalocyanine Green Transparent
– Dioxazine Violet
– Mars Black (4.65 oz tube)
– Titanium White (4.65 oz tube)
- Assorted brushes – 1/2 flat and one of each #2 round, #12 round recommended
- Palette knife for mixing (Diamond shaped head)
- Paper palette for mixing (or alternative plastic tray)
- Elmer’s glue
- Scissors
- 18″ metal ruler
- Painters tape
