Learn the essential steps to bring a figure drawing to a high level of completion. This course will enable concentrated focus on the figure with a long four-week pose. Each week, emphasis is placed on careful observation of gesture, proportion, anatomical structure, line quality, and composition. As the drawing progresses, the focus will shift to components of creating a three-dimensional form, which includes rendering light and shadow, subtle tonal gradations, value, and personal mark-making.
This 3 hour online class is taught via the Zoom digital platform. The first two hours of class include a brief lecture on technique, discussions of historic and contemporary masterworks of art to support the lesson, and instructor demonstrations. Extensive prepared notes are available on the class website, along with class recordings, and a student gallery. Private and group critiques of students work will occur during the last hour of class. Students not being critiqued are encouraged to continue working during this time. Breakout rooms are optional for privacy.
