Introductory Sumi-é: East Asian Brush Painting (Online)

Instructor: Mark Malecki

This online class is for artists that have little or no experience with East Asian brush painting. Students are taught the use of the basic materials and instruction focuses on traditional subject matter such as bamboo, plum, orchid and chrysanthemum. Students observe on-line instruction and have downloadable models from which to practice. Different schools of this ancient art, from the traditional to experimental, are explained and demonstrated over the year’s curriculum. There is a strong emphasis on composition and design principles.

Students need to purchase supplies for this class. A kit of supplies is available for purchase online through The Art League’s website, and can be shipped for a fee. Please scroll down this page to see the supply list and kit.
