Italian Tradition from Classic to Modern

Instructor: Robert Liberace

This class explores the revolutionary tradition of Italian art from the Renaissance to the modern era. The techniques, methods and innovations from the most influential and radical Italian artists are studied and applied. The classic elegance of Renaissance masters such as Raphael and Bellini will be compared to modern masters like Mancini and Boldini. The class examines a range of techniques beginning with the fiery intensity of DaVinci and Tiepolo’s red chalk figure drawing. We’ll finish with an exploration of oil portrait painting inspired by the daring concepts of the nineteenth century Macchiaioli. The class will include five studio classes and one online critique session.
