This in-person class is designed for artists of all levels interested in learning and improving their techniques of East Asian brush painting. Beginners are taught the use of the basic materials and traditional subject matter. Intermediate students are offered more complex subject matter such as animals and landscapes. Advanced students are shown special techniques and materials to extend their range of artistic expression. Students observe demonstrations and have access to downloadable models from which to practice. Different schools of this ancient art, from the traditional to experimental, are explained and demonstrated over the year’s curriculum. There is a strong emphasis on composition and design principles.
Supplies are required for this course. As a service to our students, most supply lists are kept on hand in the Art League Supply Store. The existence of this store gives students the opportunity to obtain supplies in advance and come to class prepared to work. The Art League Supply Store is in studio 217 at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, just around the corner from the Art League School Registration Office.
They are open 7 days a week for your convenience. Due to our large enrollment, we are unable to mail, fax, or read supply lists over the phone. It is the responsibility of the student to acquire their own materials.
Hours: Sunday through Thursday from 11:00am to 5:00pm
Friday and Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm
