In this class, students learn how to create sculptures using a variety of found objects, with
a double focus on the conceptual side and the technical aspects. This is a class for students who find themselves hunting at flea markets, thrift and antique stores, or gathering at the beach or in the woods, and wish to turn those items into art. Participants learn about various adhesives and joining techniques to understand how to best combine disparate materials into a cohesive whole. Additionally, this class covers different transfer techniques and various finishes, incorporating 2-D objects onto our surfaces. Instruction may be provided in basic digital editing for those interested in creating digital collages or altering images, which can then be transferred (personal laptop and photo editing software like Affinity Photo would be required). An overarching goal of the class is the discovery of original and personal symbols, and a concept or narrative that drives the students’ work. Some experience recommended but not required.
A $20 material fee will apply, and will be paid directly to the instructor.
