The Art of Caricature

Instructor: David Carter

The form and expressive potential of the human face is always a most poignant means of expression for the artist. The art of caricature provides the opportunity to extend this visual vocabulary beyond nature’s normal repertoire. Whether for humor, satire, or the creation of fictional characters, caricature is “hyper-portraiture.” Learn to combine knowledge of anatomy with creative techniques for exaggerating and distorting the rhythms, gestures, and proportions that make each face unique. Prior drawing/portrait experience is helpful.
