The Watercolor Experience with Peter Ulrich
(This is what I use…not a “requirement” for the course)
DRAWING
- Sketch pad, medium sized such as 11 ” x 14″
- Drawing pencils – B or #2 pencil
- Kneaded eraser
- Sharpie Black ink pen, ultrafine point
COLORS: (Winsor & Newton, DaVinci, Daler Rowney, Daniel Smith are all good – buy Artist Quality not Student Quality). Asterisks denote starter set.
- Indanthrone Blue
- Ultramarine Blue *
- Winsor Blue *
- Prussian Blue
- Cerulean Blue
- Cobalt Blue
- Cobalt Teal
- Payne’s Gray (strongly suggest Winsor & Newton; all others are too dull)
- New Gamboge * or Quinacridone Gold
- Lemon Yellow or other “cool” yellow
- Cadmium Lemon *
- Raw Sienna *
- Alizarin Crimson *
- Permanent Rose
- Cadmium Red Light *
- Cadmium Orange
- Burnt Sienna *
- VanDyke Brown * (or Burnt Umber)
BRUSHES:
- Any “large” brush that holds lots of water but has a very fine point. For example: Robert Simmons “Goliath” (#26 or larger) or the “Faux Squirrel” #1827 by Dynasty (#18 or 20)
- Medium (#10 or #12) round
- 1 ½– or 2-inch flat for washes
- #1 Rigger
PALETTE – John Pike or similar style palette with big mixing area and cover to keep paint fresh
PAPER – Top quality 100% cotton rag paper like Arches, either full sheets (22”X30” 140 pound cold-pressed or rough) or a 12”X16” block (equivalent to a quarter-sheet) with glued edges.
EXTRAS:
- Viva paper towels or some brand that is equally soft
- Photo references for subject matter
- Box or Bag to carry all this stuff
A kit of supplies is available for purchase online through The Art League’s website, and can be shipped for a fee, or picked up in store.
The kit includes the underlined items.
