description
Miniature painting has had a rich tradition ranging from ancient Rome and medieval manuscripts, to India and Persia, to the Renaissance. The small format encourages the artist to create something intimate and personal. Gouache is the perfect medium for this type of work. Gouache is a heavy, opaque watercolor paint that has been used for centuries. It is easier to handle than transparent watercolor because it can be continually reworked, or "corrected." Students learn techniques and use of tools and materials while the instructor provides examples, designs, and source materials for paintings. Different surfaces and formats are explored and demos of the medium are included.
