A Steel, Wood, and Upholstery Ottoman Project Class

In this new fun and fast-paced three-part skills class, Art League students collaborate with the Alexandria Seaport Foundation to learn the basics of welding, woodworking, and upholstery as they create a one-of-a-kind steel and hardwood storage ottoman. You’ll build your very own ottoman with directions from your instructors, Donna & Nicole, with the opportunity to personalize your project with creative metal design motifs, hardwood choice, and fabric selection. You'll gain experience in the safe use of studio tools and equipment including oxy-acetylene gas welding, drill press, chop saw, disc grinder, table saw, jointer, planer, sander, clamps, and metal and wood finishing. Class will begin at The Art League sculpture studio for metal-working, continue to the Seaport Foundation's floating houseboat wood shop on the Potomac for woodworking, and then return to the Art League studios for upholstery. This adventurous class is perfectly appropriate for you, whether you have no experience in any of the three areas, or if you have some previous skill in any of them. Best of all, you'll have great social impact: tuition collected for this special class will support the community outreach programs at The Art League and the Seaport Foundation! Note: Please wear long cotton/denim pants, closed shoes, and bring a long-sleeved shirt. All tools are provided. Materials may be purchased from the instructors at the first class, approximately $100.
