description
Gouache (opaque watercolor) is exciting, forgiving and extremely versatile to use. On the surface, it's similar to watercolor. But, while with traditional watercolor you have to work from light to dark, using transparent washes, gouache allows you to apply lighter tones and tints on top of darker ones! This is great for painting detail, and with the ability to rework dried paint simply by re-wetting it, colors can be played with and altered and built upon and also combined with additives, to achieve your desired effect. Class includes the basic techniques of working with gouache - like wet-in-wet, wet on dry, mixing, dark on light and light on dark. Students learn the materials needed to get started, before covering gouache's limitations and some exciting opportunities it presents to be creative.
