Connecting to Memories: Mapping Memories with Stitch

Instructor: Julie Booth

Students use hand stitching and fabric manipulation techniques to explore memories of place, family, and/or travel. Each session will center on a map-related theme, including: Designing a Compass Rose (centering exercise); Latitude/Longitude (using the grid format to explore themes around place); Road Trip (memories about travel); Treasure Map (what do you treasure?…with possibilities to create a 3-dimensional piece). Students will have the option to work on several smaller pieces that focus on these themes or work on a larger piece using fabrics, linens or clothing that hold personal meaning.

NOTE: This is NOT a beginning class. Students should have a knowledge of basic hand stitches and feel comfortable working conceptually. The teacher is willing to have email consultations with students about larger projects.

This class is taught using the digital Zoom platform.
