This course is open to beginner and experienced artists who are interested in drawing the human figure with clothes. A live fashion model will be provided for each session. The purpose of the class is to empower the student in creating their own unique interpretation towards editorial fashion illustration by enhancing their drawing abilities.
By deconstructing the drawing and thinking process each student will eventually build up a comprehensive tool box set of skills. Every session will begin by introducing a premise or formal art concept pertaining to standard fashion illustration conventions, but can be used for any drawing and illustration project. Such topics such as proportion, shape, line qualities, time and movement, and other methodologies will be explored in a variety of ways, always through a fashion lens.
The program will include class Zoom crits, personal email critiques, samples shown from past and present fashion illustrators for inspiration, and some light homework. Attention will be paid to an assortment of materials and techniques such as markers, pencils, charcoal, and gouache as well as other mediums primarily used in the fashion industry. Model fees are extra.
