Expressive Watercolor: Elements of Expression - Audit Only

Instructor: Susan O’Neill
Susan O'Neill
Students may audit this class. Auditing students may watch each session and receive any images or handouts the instructor provides, but will not be able to engage with instructor or receive critiques of their work.
Capture your interests in watercolor, learning the expressive nature of watercolor to create paintings that are fresh, vital, and alive. Working with a variety of inspirations, including some plein air landscape, students learn to embrace the magical qualities of watercolor. The lessons explore the essentials in a scene, creating vibrant, loose paintings with confidence. Students will learn to understand brush and paint control to create luminous mixes and subtle nuances and how to interpret dynamic relationships within the pictorial space. It is not the highest degree of technical skills that are needed to create the most beautiful work of art but the understanding of how and why artwork can captivate the viewer. Included are discussions of historical and contemporary examples, and instructor demonstrations. Group and private critique will occur during a portion of the class, for a hour immediately following class, and via email.
This online class will be taught through the video-conferencing platform Zoom, and your teacher email to facilitate further communication with you and your classmates.
