Temperature for Painters: What it Is and Why it Matters - Online

Instructor: Susan Abbott

This workshop will be taught with Zoom meetings that feature slide talks and critiques, plus emails, video lessons, and a virtual private Facebook group that will be our classroom for sharing work and ideas.

Color temperature is at the heart of painting compositions, and yet many artists either aren’t aware of what temperature is, or don’t feel confident in how to effectively use it. This intensive workshop will employ examples from art history as well as challenging exercises to develop compositions that fully explore the vital vocabulary of color temperature for painters.

Our class will have an online Zoom meeting from 10 am to 12 pm on September 7th, 9th, 11th and 14th. During our Zoom, Susan will present a slide lecture, conduct critiques, and lead discussions on the topics we’ll be covering.

Students work independently on painting assignments between class meetings, and can consult with Susan by email or phone with any questions. We’ll also have a virtual classroom where students will share their work and ideas.

Mediums: oils, watercolor, gouache or acrylics.
