Throwing / Handbuilding Ceramics

Instructor: Meredith Patton

**This class is now full.**

This a general pottery/ceramics course designed for creative exploration. The variety of construction techniques will be demonstrated including the potters’ wheel. Support and encouragement of finding your voice in clay will be emphasized. The guiding thought of this course is one of a think tank. Listening, learning and working with everyone in the studio. You will be exposed to the entire process of ceramics including forming, decorating, glazing and varied firing techniques. You will realize a refinement of your skill set and the expansion of your vocabulary will be an activity for all to share. This course is suitable for the beginner as well as the intermediate and advanced potter.

The Art League Ceramics program boasts large, bright and well equipped studios. A $20 kit is offered in the studio on the first day of class. We provide open studio time for students to practice and expand their skill set outside of class. *Open studio is not for mass production and is only for currently enrolled students.* The Ceramics program glaze fires at cone six, both electric oxidation as well as gas reduction. Specialty firings such as Raku are offered in weekend workshop form as well as occasional technique focused classes. Tuition includes 25lbs of clay, studio glazes and all firing of the artwork. More clay is also available for purchase as the need arises.
