Ikebana Arranger: Marjorie Bauman
“A Sun Will Always Sing” reminds me of an impressionistic view of a skyline in the early morning with muted and textured shades of blue and white. The container from the Shigaraki village in Japan, seemed to have similar colors and soft effect and provides contrast to the strength and simplicity of the one large tree peony, rising like a morning sun, into full bloom. The delicate deutzia flowers are shaped like small bells ringing in the new day. The natural cascading effect of their branches bring the viewer’s gaze into the arrangement and drape along the subtle colors of the container. One gold branch suggests the warmth of sunshine shown in the painting. Both Jernigan’s painting and my Ikebana arrangement reflect a sense of calm and enchantment, that although fleeting, feels poignant and enduring.
