Ikebana Arranger: Motoko Shimizu-y
The artwork reminds me of the moment when I am arranging flowers in a clear vase, and suddenly feel as though I am “arranging” water. In the reflection of the water, colors and movement melt together and time freezes. The three stacked glass containers further accentuate the reflections. The flowers are not submerged in the water but by placing some flowers at the back of the container, they look as though they are floating. And in keeping with the inspiration for the artwork, while it is past cherry blossom season, I preserved some cherry blossoms in sugar-one of them is floating in the top vase.
