Unlike conventional dyes, indigo uses the air to impart its unique shades of blue to natural fibers. Participants explore the mysteries of setting up an indigo vat, producing color, and caring for and maintaining your indigo vat. No previous dye experience is needed. A $10 materials fee is payable to the instructor.
The fiber studio provides large work spaces with an assortment of floor looms, table looms, spinning wheels, dyeing facilities, silk steamer and an extensive fiber library. Open studio is available to Art League members and students for a nominal fee. Our floor loom rental fees include open studio time.
Covid Policy for Students in this Class
The Art League will no longer require masks in our classrooms, store, gallery, or offices. However, we ask that our students, faculty, and staff use caution and thoughtfulness when they are close to others for prolonged periods. For example, students using shared equipment in the classroom studios are strongly encouraged to wear masks for their safety, and the consideration of those around them, when in tight proximity to others.Masks are also recommended if your home community risk level is high (Alexandria is currently at medium risk), or you’ve been told by a health professional to wear a mask based on your personal risk factors.
The Art League reserves the right to reinstate mandatory masks, and additional covid safety policies should we feel local conditions warrant such action.
