Figure Drawing in Charcoal

Instructor: Teresa Oaxaca

In this workshop students make two drawings from the live model, observing carefully such things as gesture, shadow and light block in, and proportion. The medium of charcoal is used to describe form and categorize value into a system that helps the student readily graduate to painting or inform their current painting’s abilities. An old material, charcoal has of late been used to make finished drawings and pleasing sketches. It’s simplicity and ready availability make it a popular medium for medium scale, expressive and quick drawings that capture essentials.

Anatomy, value, proportion, edges, blending, linework and hatching will be covered.
