Past painters have much to teach us about all aspects of art. Through a combination of art history and painting exercises, students look at the techniques and approaches of four master painters from Renaissance to modern time, focusing on their use of composition, color and narrative. Students explore the work of masters Giotto, Chardin, Cezanne, Richard Diebenkorn and the many painters who were influenced by them, through slide-talks, in-class exercises, demonstrations, and at-home painting exercises. Watercolor, gouache, acrylic and oil are welcome.
