Painting Still Life Harmoniously And With Precision

Instructor: Teresa Oaxaca

In this workshop, students paint one still life over two days. The subject is a table-top floral arrangement with small insects and mammals studded about the composition. Each student sets up a personal arrangement to view and paint from. They work on a 16×20” canvas or panel. Each meeting, Teresa demonstrates a live painting and provides individualized critiques for every participant. The emphasis of this workshop is on color, matching values, drawing, design of space, rendering of details, and glazing. There is an added element of utilizing outside photo references of small creatures, such as birds or insects, into the painting. How to animate photographs and mix reference is discussed.
