In this watercolor workshop, students paint the portraits of their pets – cats and dogs – in watercolor. Participants focus on creating the fur texture of their animal. They learn, in great depth, to control hard and soft edges. For backgrounds, the students learn the important wet-on-wet variegated wash. Discussion is held on the first day about which photo references work best. The generally muted color palettes of pets, like white, black, ocher and brown, are discussed as well. Students use the exercises they learned the first day to work on their pet portraits on the second day. Some experience in watercolor is helpful.
