From DaVinci’s moody monochromes to the famed four color palette of Zorn, artists have long been fascinated with the elegance and effectiveness of limited palette painting. This workshop explores how artists ingeniously captured a wide chromatic gamut with a few essential colors. Participants use these techniques to create alla prima oil portraits suggesting a wide spectrum of colors. This approach develops students’ resourcefulness and facilitates a greater focus on paint handling and modeling. Each class features a specific palette of colors, including Zorn’s distinctive method, and discussions and demonstrations examining both anatomy and color help shed light on this extraordinary tradition. Model fees are extra.
