Ukrainian Easter Egg Workshop

This workshop teaches participants how to make Ukrainian Easter eggs, called Pysankas, which are full of symbolism and color. The Pysanka is an ancient art form that celebrates events of rebirth in nature and life (for example: Spring). The workshop begins with an informative short DVD about pysankas. The surface designs on the eggs consist of beeswax, candlelight, and vibrant dyes, and are applied with an instrument made of wood and copper called a kistka. Participants create a beautiful egg in the time-honored Ukrainian tradition of Pysanka, a symbolic piece of art to invoke a new world vision. In this three-hour workshop, students explore this art in free form, using symbolism that tells a specific story and has meaning. Note: Student hands must be free of hand lotion/cream.

Each student must purchase a $25 Pysanka Egg Decorating Kit from the instructor at the start of the class which includes what is needed to create the pysanka.
