The Art League is located in the landmark Torpedo Factory Art Center, 105 North Union Street, on the beautiful Potomac River in historic Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. Our facilities are accessible by car, bus, and Metro, allowing the League to serve the cultural communities of the metro Washington, DC area.
The School – 703-683-2323
The school office is located on the 2nd floor of the Torpedo Factory Art Center (TFAC), room 216. Classes are held in two locations in historic Old Town Alexandria: the Torpedo Factory Art Center, 105 North Union Street, Alexandria, VA 22314 and the Madison Annex, 305 Madison Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Class locations are posted each term outside the school office (room 216) in the Torpedo Factory Art Center. The Art League School Office is open 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and occasional Saturdays.
The Store – 703-548-8127
The store is located in room 217, around the corner from the school office. The Art League Store is open from 9:15 am – 4:00 pm, Monday through Saturday during each nine week term, and from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm outside of term. The store also offers evening hours throughout the nine week term on Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. The first two weeks of each term only, extended evening and weekend hours are 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Sunday. Please note that the store may close for lunch, if there is only one staff person on duty.
The Gallery – 703-683-1780
The gallery is located on the first floor of the TFAC, studio 21. The Art League Gallery is open daily from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, 12:00 noon – 6:00 pm on Sundays. The Gallery stays open late on Thursdays, 10:00 am – 9:00 pm.
Directions
From Maryland or Virginia:
Torpedo Factory Art Center: take the Beltway (Route 495) to exit I77B (Route 1 North [old exit 1]): go 6 blocks, turn right onto King Street, turn left from King Street onto North Union Street (last street before the river); 1/2 block to the TFAC on the right. Madison Annex: stay on Route 1, go 13 blocks, turn right onto Madison Street, go 7 blocks to the corner of North Fairfax and Madison Streets. The Annex is on the left.
From DC:
Cross the river to the George Washington Parkway, go south past Reagan National Airport to Alexandria; turn left onto Queen Street, go 6 blocks; turn right on North Union Street, go 1-1/2 blocks to the TFAC on the left. To reach the Madison Annex from the GW Parkway, turn left onto Madison Street, go 4 blocks, 305 is on the left.
Metro
Take the Yellow or Blue Line to the King Street Station; then take the Alexandria Dash Bus #2 or #5, eastbound. For the Madison Annex, stay on the bus until the Madison and North Fairfax Street intersection. For the TFAC, leave the bus at the King and Fairfax Street intersection; walk 2 blocks east on King Street to North Union Street. From Union Street the TFAC is to the left 1/2 block on the right. In addition, the free King Street Trolley runs every 20 minutes from the King Street Station to Union Street; the trolley operates seven days a week from 11:30 am–10:00 pm.
Parking
Metered street parking is available around the TFAC. There is inexpensive evening and weekend parking at the City Hall lot under Market Square on Fairfax Street. Click here for information about weekday Madison Annex parking at the Crowne Plaza hotel.
