Throwing / Handbuilding Ceramics

**This class is now full.**

This course is potters’ wheel centric. It emphasizes developing good technique, understanding the needs of functional form and the vocabulary of pottery. The entire process of creating functional pots will be explored, from thoughtful form to the use of decorative slips, glazing and varied types of firing. The idea that the potters’ wheel is simply a tool to aid your expression is key. This course is designed as a casual exploration of pottery and is appropriate for beginners as well as intermediate potters’.

The Art League Ceramics Studio is located at our Madison Annex in Old Town, Alexandria. The studios are large, bright, and well equipped, easily stimulating creativity. Open studio time allows students to practice and expand their skills outside of class. The tuition includes 25 pounds of clay, glazes, and firing in the electric kiln. New students may buy tools for approximately $20 at the first class.
