Next week at The Art League is packed, starting Sunday with the “Influence & Inspiration” exhibit reception at the Athenaeum. Then there’s the September exhibit reception at The Art League, receiving for September’s exhibit, workshops at the School, and the start of the Ice Cream Bowl Fundraiser at the King Street Art Festival! Here’s what’s in store:
Sunday at 4:00 pm, come to the reception for our special 60th anniversary exhibit, “Influence & Inspiration.” Take a look at the special videos that accompany the exhibit, above. The exhibit and reception are at the Athenaeum (201 Prince Street). Like all our receptions, it’s free!

Artwork receiving for the September group exhibit, “Contemporary Realism,” is Monday and Tuesday. The juror is Dorothy Moss of the National Portrait Gallery. Click here for the prospectus.
Next Thursday is Second Thursday, which means you can join us for September’s opening reception. Meet the artists of “Contemporary Realism” and Web Bryant’s “Washington from Light to Night” and enjoy some refreshments! The reception is from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.
There are 15 different workshops this week alone, including Photographing Your Artwork, Crash Course in Drawing, Introduction to Encaustic, and Jumpstart to the Artful iPad. To see all our Fall workshops, click here.
It’s back! Next weekend, the 13th and 14th, is the Alexandria King Street Art Festival, and The Art League will be there with the Ice Cream Bowl Fundraiser and a community art activity. Come by and contribute to our 60th anniversary Community Canvas, and buy a handmade bowl and local ice cream for only $15. We’ll have over 1,000 bowls, all handmade by our ceramic artists, with proceeds supporting the department. Click here for the schedule and details.
