We pass the Washington Monument without thinking and the Lincoln Memorial doesn’t impress us like it did when we first saw it. Milton Shinberg’s art reframes the beauty of DC through the eyes of an architect-turned-artist, reminding even the most stoic Washingtonian of the charming majesty that the Capital City holds. Every day in the DMV we pass centuries old monuments, drive along the banks of the Potomac, and circle some of the most beautiful city infrastructure in the world without even thinking about it. The beauty of Washington DC has almost become commonplace to us busy DMV-ers.
From the carousel at Glen Echo Park that saw its heyday in the 1950’s, to Pierce Mill in Rock Creek Park, to our beloved Dupont and Georgetown neighborhoods, Shinberg explores the places we all recognize and presents them anew.
View Shinberg’s exhibit in the Gallery now through January 6, and visit us TONIGHT for the Opening Reception of “re-Cog’-ni’-zing / dc” and meet the artist!
