From the New Yorker to the daily paper, serious or funny, single-panel or short-sequence strips, comics of all types express so much with so little! Most of the time, sophisticated drawing skills are not necessary, in fact detailed drawing often detract from the sparkling economy of comic communication. What is necessary is an awareness of simple character design, some basic composition, and a consideration of timing. This class will explore the essentials of conceiving, creating, and completing a simple cartoon from the most elementary concept.
Supplies are required for this course. As a service to our students, most supply lists are kept on hand in the Art League Supply Store. The existence of this store gives students the opportunity to obtain supplies in advance and come to class prepared to work. The Art League Supply Store is in studio 217 at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, just around the corner from the Art League School Registration Office.
They are open 7 days a week for your convenience. Due to our large enrollment, we are unable to mail, fax, or read supply lists over the phone. It is the responsibility of the student to acquire their own materials.
Hours: Sunday through Thursday from 11:00am to 5:00pm
Friday and Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm
