The Art League employs a staff of approximately 30 full- and part-time employees in its five departments: Administration, Development, School, Gallery, and Store. Most of our staff is connected in some way to the arts, particularly the visual arts, but the skill sets needed for the various positions held are fine arts administration.

Teach with us!

The Art League is looking for skilled instructors in all visual arts disciplines. We’re particularly keen to recruit new hires for our sculpture, stained glass, and watercolor departments. 

Preferred applicants will have a personable and patient disposition, excellent communication skills, and the ability to teach their medium to beginning, intermediate, and advanced level students. Experience teaching is helpful but not an absolute requirement.

Gallery Associate & Artist Coordinator

This job is for someone who enjoys working in a creative environment at an artistic, mission-based non-profit.

 

The Artist Coordinator assists with daily gallery and duties and supports the Gallery Director with the organization and presentation of the Solo Artist program and the individual artist exhibits. This position will also work with the exhibiting artist membership program.

 

Hours: Full time. Tuesday – Saturday, 10am-6 pm.

Areas of Responsibility

Gallery Operations:

  • Process sales, notify artists of sales, rehang work, create labels for works
  • Data entry of sales and artwork inventory
  • Assist with monthly website updates to ensure accurate information about exhibits, jurors, and artworks for sale online
  • Regularly maintain the gallery and desk area to ensure neatness
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs.
  • Assist in all capacities during show week ( if scheduled) including receiving and installation of work
  • Assist with all facets of the Patrons’ Show fundraiser, including hanging, framing, labeling of work and working at the event

Solo Artist Program:

  • Manage correspondence with solo artist program applicants, participants, and juror panels
  • Assist with solo artist receiving and installation of work, as well as, marketing related to each artist’s exhibit
  • Assist in all capacities during solo artist show week including receiving and installation of work
  • Process sales, notify artists of sales, rehang work, create labels for works
  • Data entry of solo artist panel feedback, sales and artwork inventory
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs
  • Set up tables and help prepare food items for receptions

Membership Coordinating:

  • Data entry and processing of memberships
  • Contact artists needing membership renewals and reach out to lapsed members
  • Explain membership options to an interested person, and welcome new members with information packets
  • Regularly communicate with members via email, phone, and in-person
  • Foster relationships with members and encourage connection between artists

General:

  • Employees may be required to perform other Art League-related tasks, as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of and enthusiasm for the visual arts
  • Ability to enthusiastically complete multiple, concurrent projects
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Customer relations/sales experience
  • Database experience
  • REQUIRED Proof of full vaccination against Covid 19, or first dose and proof of appointment date for the second dose

Preferred:

  • 4 Year Degree in Fine Arts
  • Experience in gallery operations
  • Adobe Suite experience
  • Mac computer experience

Internships

Unpaid internships are available throughout the year for assisting in the gallery. A gallery internship provides great work experience where you not only gain direct experience working in the visual arts arena, but also learn about the business operations of the gallery. Art Camp instructors needed

The Art League’s Summer Art Camp is seeking new teaching artists. Applicants should have a strong fine art background and experience working with/teaching children. Resumes and letters of interest highlighting past teaching experience, along with proposed lesson plans can be sent to [email protected].

Teaching positions

Have an idea for a class you want to teach? Applications should include several slides, tifs or jpegs of current work, a cover letter with statement of intent, and resumé. Art Models

The Art League is currently searching for art models for our in person drawing and painting studio art classes. We are looking for figure (nude) models and also clothed models for portraits, and models in costume. Some classes need models to hold dynamic gesture poses for shorter time periods, while others require a model to sustain a pose for the whole class. Classes are usually between two and half hours and five hours. Models will create poses themselves or collaborate with teachers to create the poses. Models are paid $25 an hour.

Ceramics Studio Team positions

The Art League’s Ceramics Department offers a range of studio assistant positions for students. Interested students are invited to develop skills and knowledge while providing labor and support for the studio’s technical operations and educational environment.
