This intense three day workshop will showcase a series of demos and discuss various subject matters such as portraiture, landscape and animals. Using methods ranging from traditional to more expressive, students will rediscover the very basic, yet endlessly versatile medium of charcoal. Students can work on their own projects and receive critique and feedback. This course is held on Zoom.

1 Pack of General’s White Charcoal Sticks (Pack of 4)
1 Blending Stump, #8
1 Kneaded Eraser (must be kneaded, not the hard/rubbery kind)
1 Chamois
2 – 4 Bulldog Clips
1 Charcoal holder
1 can of Workable Fixative
1 case of Nitram Soft Vine Charcoal 6 mm
1 case of Nitram Soft Vine Charcoal 12 mm
1 tube of watercolor paint, Black (any brand)
1 tube of Winsor & Newton Neutral Gray gouache paint (14 ml)
1 Robert Simmons Signet Bristle Brush, Filbert, Size 8 (must be natural bristle, no synthetic hair)
Drawing board (at least 18” x 24”)
2 sheets of 22” x 30” Stonehenge paper, White
2 sheets of 22” x 30” Stonehenge paper, Gray
Optional but strongly recommended:
Charcoal Powder (any brand)
Gum Arabic (watercolor medium, any brand, small bottle)
1 tube of Winsor & Newton White gouache paint (14 ml) (14 ml)
1 sheet of 22” x 30” Arches watercolor paper, White, 140 lb, hot press
