Students paint a portrait from observation of a live model in traditional oil colors. They focus on achieving naturalistic skin tones, three-dimensional lighting effects, and expressive use of color. There are two portrait demonstrations by the instructor for three hours each morning. Students may experience art talks and individualized critiques that focus on materials, techniques, process, and artistic vision. The class covers the palette with brush/knife color mixing.
