For the sculptor, a nose is not a nose, but a series of projections and recessions that, if felt and captured and edited wisely, will give the viewer a convincing equivalent in clay of that natural form. This course is a series of short exercises in clay modeling using isolated forms found in the human head. It is designed to acquaint the beginning (or intermediate) sculpture student with the notion that sculpture has its own language and graphic requirements, quite separate from what we see in nature. Once understood, it will provide a solid foundation for a more complex exploration of the human head.
Clay is included in the tuition.
