Elaine Florimonte: Parallels and Rosa Vera: For Land and Water

We Were Born Before the Wind by Elaine Florimonte; Acrylic Collage on Canvas.

There are two new solo exhibits at Touchstone Gallery: Trees serve as muse and metaphor for Elaine Florimonte’s exhibit Parallels.  The parallels between the life of a tree and its dependency on the forest and the issues of connection and isolation in our society is undeniable, and something the artist has pondered during the pandemic. In this series of paintings, the repetition of verticals along the constant of the horizon, and the light that she imagined pouring through the negative space, symbolize hope.

Lotus Fields III by Rosa Vera

From the deserts of Peru to the hill towns of Italy and the marshes of the United States, Rosa Vera in her latest solo exhibition For Land and Water, focuses on how virtually everything we cherish—natural and manmade—is in danger due to climate change. Through her facile, expressive brushstrokes and geometric compositions, she engages the audience to become aware of the colorful beauty of what will be lost as we face our natural disasters. Both exhibits are on view through January 2, 901 New York Avenue NW.
