Meditation on Blue

Meditation on Blue, at Morton Fine Art, brings together a varied group of artists whose works transcend geographical boundaries to explore the depth and versatility of blue in abstract art. While broadly diverse in technical processes and conceptual concerns, artists Michael Andrew Booker, Kesha Bruce, Natalie Cheung, Jaz Graf, Hiromitsu Kuroo, Katherine Tzu-Lan Mann, Andrei Petrov, Amber Robles-Gordon, Prina Shah and Liz Tran are united through their use of the color blue. At once peaceful and melancholic, blue speaks to the primordial essence of things, receding to the depths of the artwork and providing a quiet space for contemplation and renewal. Artist/Writers: Cover Art for Academic Medicine
Deadline: Rolling. Submit original works of art inspired by, but not necessarily representative of, an academic medicine experience from any perspective: caregiver, researcher, teacher, learner, or patient (for example, learning how to be a physician or scientist, caring for patients, exploring research questions, making a new discovery, being a research participant, teaching, or being cared for in a teaching hospital). The journal welcomes photography, sculpture, painting, textile work, and other visual media. Images may be cropped or resized to fit into the allotted cover space. Artists must also submit a related Cover Art essay as a narrative companion to the artwork, to explain the connection between the work and the “academic medicine experience.” The related narrative should be 250 to 600 words and is subject to editing. The Awesome Foundation Accepting Applications for Art Projects

The Awesome Foundation for the Arts and Sciences is a worldwide network of people devoted to forwarding the interest of “awesomeness in the universe.” Established in 2009, the foundation distributes $1,000 grants on a monthly basis to projects and their creators. The Intersection Series presents contrasting artists with distinct viewpoints intersecting in Strathmore’s Mansion Galleries. Muhammad’s collages form new worlds from recognizable imagery and Wine’s meditational geometric work creates transformations by subtle merging of colors. Threads of Time: An Archival Textile Journey at Cody Gallery delves into the rich history of textile design and production, exploring how textiles have expressed identity, status, and tradition across cultures and eras. The exhibit examines the evolution of techniques and materials while uncovering the stories these textiles tell about the societies that created them. Key questions include: How do textiles reflect their cultural and economic contexts? What narratives are woven into their fibers? How have textile practices transformed over time? The Shape of Power: Stories of Race and American Sculpture

The Shape of Power: Stories of Race and American Sculptureat the Smithsonian American Art Museum examines for the first time the role of sculpture in understanding and constructing the concept of race in the United States over nearly three centuries. Featuring 70 artists whose work crosses time, scale and media, the exhibition brings together American sculpture in its many forms to explore the ways in which it has shaped and reflected attitudes and understandings about race, and has served as an expression of resistance, liberation and a vital means for reclaiming identity. The exhibition includes 82 sculptures created between 1792 and 2023 ranging in size from palm-sized coins to monumental statues created from diverse media such as bronze, marble, shoes, paper and hair. Artist/Writers: Cover Art for Academic Medicine
Deadline: Rolling. Submit original works of art inspired by, but not necessarily representative of, an academic medicine experience from any perspective: caregiver, researcher, teacher, learner, or patient (for example, learning how to be a physician or scientist, caring for patients, exploring research questions, making a new discovery, being a research participant, teaching, or being cared for in a teaching hospital). The journal welcomes photography, sculpture, painting, textile work, and other visual media. Images may be cropped or resized to fit into the allotted cover space. Artists must also submit a related Cover Art essay as a narrative companion to the artwork, to explain the connection between the work and the “academic medicine experience.” The related narrative should be 250 to 600 words and is subject to editing. The Awesome Foundation Accepting Applications for Art Projects
Deadline: Open. The Awesome Foundation for the Arts and Sciences is a worldwide network of people devoted to forwarding the interest of “awesomeness in the universe.” Established in 2009, the foundation distributes $1,000 grants on a monthly basis to projects and their creators. The money is pooled from ten or more self-organizing “micro-trustees.” The chapters are autonomous and organized by the trustees around geographic areas or topics of interest. Call for Artists: Maryland Art Place Seeks Proposals for Rotating Exhibition Partnership with Baltimore’s Hotel Indigo (MD)
Deadline: rolling. Maryland Art Place (MAP), in partnership with Hotel Indigo is pleased to announce an open ‘Call to Artists’. As an extension of MAP’s annual IMPACT public art partnership projects, MAP is working with Hotel Indigo to offer rotating exhibitions in Hotel indigo’s library and Poets Modern Cocktails and Eats. This opportunity is available to visual artists living or working in Maryland. Maryland Art Place will curate four exhibitions a year based on submissions entered through a rolling basis. Peripheral ARTeries – Biennial Contemporary Art Publication

Artists works will displayed in the hotel’s gallery (220 S Union St, Old Town Alexandria) for a six-month period. Two-dimensional, framed works only. The Umbrella Art Fair, Washington, DC’s vibrant celebration of the arts, returns for its fourth edition from November 15–17 in the Union Market District. Multiple Exposures Gallery presents Book of Job, a solo exhibition of photographic work by Timothy Hyde. Book of Job revisits the three projects that have consumed much of Tim’s creative energies and time in the past two decades, projects that explore surprisingly similar themes — natural disasters, night prowls, and what Tim describes as “the ever-present scourge of our species, neighbor-against-neighbor violence.” This is Hyde’s last show at Multiple Exposures Galley—he is leaving in December—but you can meet the artist on Saturday and Sunday, November 16 and 17 when the show ends, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Torpedo Factory Art Center #312, 105 N. 93 Fragments by Mojdeh Rezaeipour; Collage
Washington Project for the Arts (WPA) presents 93 Fragments, organized by D.C.-based artist Mojdeh Rezaeipour and hosted by GW’s Corcoran School of the Arts & Design. The project includes a group exhibition and a series of programs that bring together the creative practices and methodologies of sixteen artists, writers, and thinkers from around the world who engage with materials of cultural heritage. 93 Fragments proposes a radical reimagining of stewardship, transforming a museum-like showcase of preserved objects and artworks into a space of revolutionary and liberatory potential. 93 Fragments opens Thursday, November 14, 6:30–9 pm, with a reception featuring performances by artists Tsedaye Makonnen and Fargo Nissim Tbakhi starting at 7 pm. Call to Artists, Traffic Box Art Wrap Project — Hyattsville, MD
Deadline: November 18 On behalf of the Town of Berwyn Heights, the Hyattsville Community Development Corporation announces a Call for Artists’ designs to transform select traffic signal and utility cabinets in Berwyn Heights into public artworks. Traffic signal cabinets – the stainless-steel structures located at every signalized intersection – are vulnerable to graffiti and vandalism. This project will utilize a public art application to address community blight and enhance the visual landscape. Submit original works of art inspired by, but not necessarily representative of, an academic medicine experience from any perspective: caregiver, researcher, teacher, learner, or patient (for example, learning how to be a physician or scientist, caring for patients, exploring research questions, making a new discovery, being a research participant, teaching, or being cared for in a teaching hospital). The journal welcomes photography, sculpture, painting, textile work, and other visual media. Images may be cropped or resized to fit into the allotted cover space. Call to Artists, Traffic Box Art Wrap Project — Hyattsville, MD
Deadline: November 18 On behalf of the Town of Berwyn Heights, the Hyattsville Community Development Corporation announces a Call for Artists’ designs to transform select traffic signal and utility cabinets in Berwyn Heights into public artworks. Traffic signal cabinets – the stainless-steel structures located at every signalized intersection – are vulnerable to graffiti and vandalism. This project will utilize a public art application to address community blight and enhance the visual landscape.
