Strauss Fellowships for Individual Artists
Application Deadline: January 19, 2009

Named for Bill Strauss (1947-2007), gifted writer, co-founder of the Capitol Steps and the Cappies, the Strauss Fellowships for Individual Artists support and encourage Fairfax County’s finest creative artists in all disciplines and recognize professional working artists’ achievements and their demonstrated history of accomplishments; they promote artists’ continued pursuit of their creative work.

The Arts Council offers free grant writing workshops to applicants prior to grant application deadlines. All applicants, particularly first time applicants, are strongly encouraged to attend.

Torpedo Factory Artists. For membership information, see below.

Submissions must be sent by e-mail to [email protected] by Monday, March 2 at 10am. Artists may submit 1-3 images. Work must be three-dimensional and free-standing. No wall hangings will be accepted. All work must be original. Works cannot have been juried into previous Washington Square Exhibitions or previous exhibits at The Art League Gallery.


Receiving:

Sunday, May 3, 2009, 10am – 12noon
Washington Square Building
1050 Connecticut Avenue NW
Washington, DC.
Accepted work must be delivered to the venue in person.
End of Show Pick-Up:

August 1, 2009, 10am-12noon, Washington Square Building

Membership:

Membership to The Art League is open to all artists wishing to participate. To join in March, the prorated fee is $60, which enables artists to submit to four juried membership shows through June 2009, in addition to Sculptors of The Art League. Artists may also opt for the prorated $100 fee, which extends them the opportunity of submitting to all shows through June 2010. For a membership application, visit www.theartleague.org.
