Call to Artists
Found
April 2010
This exhibit is intended to explore the creativity of found objects. A found object can be described as a natural object or an artifact not originally intended as art that is found and considered to have aesthetic value. Artists are encouraged to explore the uses of materials that are not considered “art supplies”, but visually interesting materials. The found object must be the focus of the piece. The artist should strive to find the beauty and/or potential of the found object. 90% must be composed of found object(s) and only 10% new material. The frame will not be considered as part of the artwork. Works can be two dimensional or three dimensional, so the found object can be presented in a traditional frame or in a non-traditional manner.

Found objects in any form can become something entirely different. The San Francisco Dump has an Artist in Residence Program, which allows each artist to use materials from the dump as long as they produce a show. These artists have wonderful examples of incorporating found objects into art. They show us ways to transform the found object into more then just a highlighted figure. You can see examples at http://www.sunsetscavenger.com/AIR/index.php?t=d.
