Call for Master Artist-in-Residence. 2 positions available – KY

The Appalachian Artisan Center located in Hindman, Kentucky seeks to fill the annual openings in our Master Artist-in-Residence Program for artists working in metals and wood. The one-year residencies will begin 9/1/2011.  Benefits include: a substantial stipend, housing, state-of-the-art studio space, and the opportunity to teach at the Kentucky School of Craft. Qualifications: We define “Master Artist” as someone who has significant experience and skill in their given field. College degrees are preferred but not required. University of Pittsburgh TEACHING ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE – PA 

Deadline: May 1, 2011. 

The Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a non tenure-track, renewable (annually for up to three years) position at the rank of Visiting Lecturer, beginning September 2011. Responsibilities include participating in University of Pittsburgh Repertory Theatre productions and the department’s touring outreach program, Shakespeare-in-the-Schools in the capacity of performer and director/writer. Other responsibilities include teaching undergraduate acting or directing courses; developing and implementing artist workshops and residencies in area schools; serving as coach or advisor for faculty and student productions; providing mentorship for all students in the department. Photography Instructor – FL 

Deadline: June 1, 2011. 

The Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale Studio School is seeking a permanent Photography instructor to teach adults and grades 1-12. This position will also assist with the management of the Photography lab and help with the set-up of the new Photography facility. Salary: $30,000 – $40,000. Employment Type: Full. Pay is commensurate with experience. Qualifications: Must have knowledge of both traditional and digital photography techniques, as well as experience with photo editing software and techniques. Prior teaching experience is a plus. Must have an MFA in Photography. Public Service Manager II Assistant Director Maine Arts Commission – ME

Deadline: April 30, 2011. 

The Assistant Director will assist the Executive Director in the day-to-day operations of the Maine Arts Commission and will oversee certain program initiatives. The agency is interested in applicants with vision and originality, who are deeply and broadly knowledgeable in the arts, the creative economy concept, with a proven career engagement with arts innovation, engagement with artists and arts organizations and general diplomacy. Development skills a plus. Excellent written and verbal skills are essential. Responsibilities include developing and managing advocacy and granting programs, strategic planning implementation, internal fiscal and office management affairs, coordinating special federal programs, and acting as liaison with arts organizations, the Maine Arts Commission members, as well as regional, federal and state agencies and commissions. This position entails assistance with human resources generally, demonstrable problem solving skills and a willingness to learn and follow bureaucratic systems. Work is performed under administrative direction. The position is a confidential federally funded position. Qualifications: KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: (These are required to successfully perform the work assigned). Knowledge of the trends and history of the various art forms. Knowledge of the functions and management of cultural organizations. Knowledge of public sector budgeting and planning including performance management. Ability to manage and supervise personnel develop budget and grant proposals, and administer programs. Ability to develop and recommend policy and program initiatives. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Knowledge of state and federal government management including both administrative and legislative (knowledge of State Government is an asset). Salary: $60,000 – $70,000. Employment Type: Full. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A seven (7) year combination of education and/or experience in the arts or related field that includes a minimum of two (2) years in an administrative, management, and/or supervisory capacity. Experience must include development of program rules and policies, long and short-range goals and plans, program evaluation. Teaching Assistant – FL

Full-time Teaching Assistants needed for Creative Summer Art Academy scheduled for June 13 – August 19, 2011.  Work with our great team of Faculty and Staff this summer in a creative environment with children in Grades 1-12.  This is a paid, temporary position that could potentially lead to job opportunities in subsequent semesters throughout the school year.  For further information on the Museum, the Studio School, and the Creative Summer Art Academy program, please visit www.moafl.org and click on “Studio School”.  Salary: Under $10,000. Scenic Design Interns – MI

The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre seeks 2 Interns for the 2011-2012 season.  Under the supervision of Scenic Designer, Interns will build portfolio, designing and painting productions with shop staff support.  Develop rendering, drafting, painting and design skills working in 3 distinct venues – beautifully kept 30’s proscenium house, state-of-the-art arena theatre and intimate studio space.  $200 per week, plus housing and paid health insurance.  Employment begins June 2011.  Twelve month contract with possible second year extension. NewCourtland Fellowship: The Center for Emerging Visual Artists – PA

The Center for Emerging Visual Artists (CFEVA), in partnership with NewCourtland, is pleased to offer Philadelphia area artists the opportunity to participate in an exciting, community-based fellowship. Through the NewCourtland Artist Fellowship, eight artists will be selected to bring innovative and engaging art-making to seniors in sites throughout Philadelphia. In order to apply, artists are asked to develop an intergenerational project that brings New Courtland’s residents together with school age children/teens to create a meaningful experience and an high quality artistic project. Work created by residents and their school-aged partners during the 2010 Fellowship Program will be exhibited with the work of the artist fellows in a large, well publicized exhibition entitled Art is Ageless. Accepted artists will receive a fellowship award of $2,500. Once artists receive this award they will be responsible for conducting ten 1.5 hour workshops, attending several preliminary and post-workshop meetings, attending one sensitivity training session, and participating in the Art is Ageless exhibition in Spring 2011. Artists will also be separately compensated for purchasing all necessary art supplies and professionally presenting the artwork created in their program for the final exhibition. Environmental Artist-in-Residence – McColl Center for Visual Art – NC

Call for established and emerging artists, design professionals and collaborators to create works of environmental art in the public domain. Opportunities for installations that go beyond interacting with the urban environment and become remedial interventions. The Environmental Artist-in-Residence (EAIR) program encourages artists to have beneficial impacts on the urban life through creation of art that is scientifically relevant, meaningful and beneficial environmental art. VCUarts Fountainhead Arts Sculpture Fellowship – VA

The VCUarts Sculpture Department welcomes Spring 2011 graduating MFA sculptors to apply for this year-long residency running mid-August 2011 – May 2012. 1 fellowship is awarded per year. Fellows receive: Private 400 sf studio. Furnished double-occupancy apartment with fellow from another discipline. $15,000 stipend. Part-time teaching experience. Exhibition. The Artcroft Residency Program – KY

Open to established and emerging artists, 18 years of age and older. Two-to-four week residencies are offered to visual artists and writers, and provide uninterrupted time to create new work. Applications accepted on an ongoing basis. No fees charged to residents for living expenses. Fellowships and work exchanges are offered in lieu of a daily fee. Application fee: $30. Jentel Critic at the Bray – MT

Application accepted on a year round basis. A program, sponsored by the Archie Bray Foundation and the Jentel Foundation, created to advance critical and creative writing and thinking in the field of ceramic art. The Fellowship provides an opportunity to observe and interact with working ceramics artists and time to produce five 500-word essays about these artists. The residency is divided into two components: May 1-14, 2010 at the Archie Bray Foundation to observe recipients of ceramic fellowships; and May 15-June 13, 2010 at the Jentel Artist Residency Program to focus on writing. The Center for Book Arts Chapbook Internship Program – NY

Offers hands-on training in arts administration and management and book arts techniques. Some areas of interest include: administration, development, education/outreach, exhibitions, graphic design, library/collections, special events, publication, and public relations. Participants receive a comprehensive overview of the not-for-profit operations and can take classes as well as work on their own projects. Internships vary and can run from one month to several months, depending on the Center’s scheduled activities. The program runs throughout the year. Application materials are available online.
