The Animation Project – NC Deadline for postmarked DVD entries: Friday November 11, 2011. Deadline for on-line URL entries: Monday November 14, 2011. If your entry is chosen to be a part of THE ANIMATION PROJECT, it will be part of a collection of short animated films to be shown in a traveling feature-length theatrical release. You will be given full credit for your work, as well as being featured in our website and our social media networks including a link to your website. ELIGIBILITY: Open to any artist 18 years or older, student, amateur or professional working on animation based shorts under 10 minutes in length. All entries must represent original work and not have been previously accepted in any of The Animation Project screenings. Juried Book Photo Contest: Intimate Landscape – MNDeadline: October 18, 11. Open to Interpretation is now calling on photographers to submit images for consideration in a juried book competition. Project Details: Open to Interpretation is a collaborative book project bringing together photographers, poets and writers. Each book begins with a themed call for photos. The chosen photos become the literary inspiration for the writers’ submissions. A book is created that matches each winning photo with two stories or poems that offer different interpretations of the image. All media except video and installation are eligible. Sculpture is encouraged. No size restrictions. Each artist may submit up to 3 pieces for the entry fee of $30. The Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago will purchase at least one piece from the exhibition for inclusion into the school’s Permanent Collection. Georgia Museum of Art/ Kress Foundation CALL FOR ENTRY – GA  Deadline: December 13, 11. Fifty years ago, the Samuel H. Kress Foundation gave a small collection of Italian Renaissance paintings to the Georgia Museum of Art. Now, in celebration of that anniversary the Georgia Museum of Art announces the Kress Project. Calls for Proposals: San Antonio River & Mission San Jose Portal $450,000 –  TXDeadline: October 24, 11. The San Antonio River Foundation is seeking an artist to create permanent public art for the San Antonio River and Mission San José Portal project. This ‘Portal’ will serve as a connection linking the river to the mission by the creation of connecting sidewalks and plaza area. The goal of this artwork commission is to activate and enliven this connection and celebrate the rich environmental, historical and cultural spirit of the area. The San Antonio River Improvements Projects (SARIP) is a $358 million project that aims to revitalize and enhance 13 miles of the San Antonio River both north and south of downtown. The San Antonio River Foundation is a partner in the SARIP and is responsible for funding and guidance for many enhancements along the river, including the commissioning of art works. The SARIP will create a continuous pedestrian and bike linkage from the origin of the river near Brackenridge Park, to the south, just past the historic Mission Espada. Additional features along the way will connect existing neighborhoods to the river, expand and enhance existing parks, provide environmental education opportunities and create a variety of new recreational possibilities. The Art of the Drinking Vessel – WI Deadline: February 1, 2012. In every manner, shape and form, the drinking vessel is vital to human civilization. The Art of the Drinking Vessel will highlight the utility and aesthetic grace found in this often used, but often overlooked, object. The Pump House Regional Arts Center in La Crosse, Wis., invites artists to submit works for a juried, themed exhibition of 3-D drinking vessels. Prizes totaling $1,750 will be awarded. Artists should submit works employing the elements of art and principles of design to explore and demonstrate the drinking vessel. Artwork entered may be functional or conceptual. All work must be 3-D and free standing. Drinking vessel artwork that is original, free standing, and 3-D will be accepted in any medium. The Coaster Show – IDDeadline: November 10, 11. Idaho Poster & Letterpress’s gallery is proud to announce Idaho’s first coaster show and contest. Artists may submit bar/beverage coasters that have been drawn, doodled, printed or painted on. All subject matter accepted. (We will have a naughty section in the gallery.) The rules are simple. 1. The coaster could still be used as a coaster for a beverage. (Although why would you put a drink on such a work of art?) 2. Up to 20 coasters per artist may be submitted for free. 3. Apply for an Exhibition at Redux: Redux Contemporary Art Center – SCDeadline: October 24, 11. Redux is the premier contemporary art venue in South Carolina offering opportunities for emerging and established artists to exhibit in historic downtown Charleston, SC. Redux currently presents six to eight exhibitions each year, featuring work by internationally renowned and local, emerging and mid-career artists. Body/Figure/Nude: Lexington Art League – KYDeadline: November 1, 11. January 13–March 11, 2012. The human figure has been a timeless and universal subject of art. It resonates throughout art history and continues to play a key role in contemporary art practice. Contemporary artists have refocused our gaze on the body as a vehicle for aesthetic experimentation as well as explorations of modern life, modern identity, and the social and sexual politics that impact us all. With that stated, artists are invited to submit images of their work, in any medium, dealing with the subject of the body/figure/nude or using body/figure/nude as a metaphor or allegorical vehicle, for consideration by the jurors. Call for Video Artists: AC Institute  – NYDeadline: October 15, 2011. In keeping with our mission to provide a platform for artistic exposure, the AC Institute will be unveiling a bi-weekly rotating video project, entitled Flat Out, along with our exhibition and performance calendar for the 2011-2012 year. Night Sky: Evanston Art Center – ILDeadline: November 1, 11. Night Sky argues for the relevance of a quintessentially human activity: looking up at the stars. The purpose of the exhibition is to explore the possibilities for reconnecting with a vital part of our biological, historical and cultural heritage that is in danger of extinction. Artists whose works examine the meaning of the night sky in contemporary culture are invited to submit work samples and proposals. All media will be considered for exhibition, including paintings, drawings, sculpture, photographs, video and installations. The Vilcek Foundation’s dART Call for Entries – NY Deadline: October 21, 11. The Vilcek Foundation is pleased to announce a new initiative entitled dART, short for digital art, developed to celebrate the creativity and accomplishments of foreign-born artists working in the realm of new media art. We will be accepting submissions of work created by foreign-born artists using computer-based and new media technologies, to be featured in a brand-new digital art space created for this program—dARTboard—premiering on Vilcek.org in January 2012. Submissions from artists will be accepted electronically until 5pm EDT on October 21st, 2011. Eligible applicants must be foreign-born (originally foreign citizens) and be permanent US residents (green card holders) or naturalized US citizens.
