Instructors Wanted at The Art League — Alexandria, VA

Deadline: Until filled   The Art League is looking for skilled instructors in all visual arts disciplines. We’re particularly keen to recruit new hires for our sculpture, stained glass, and watercolor departments. Preferred applicants will have a personable and patient disposition, excellent communication skills, and the ability to teach their medium to groups of beginning, intermediate, and/or advanced level students. Class sizes range, depending on enrollment, from around 5 to 30 students. Experience teaching is helpful but not an absolute requirement. Open Call, Wholeness, the 2021 Annual Small Works Show – Brooklyn, NY

Deadline: October 15   440 Gallery announces a Call for Artists for WHOLENESS, the 2021 Annual Small Works Show, to be held in our Brooklyn gallery space December 1, 2021 – January 7, 2022. This year, in collaboration with MIDHEAVEN Network, this national, juried exhibition will celebrate the innovation of artists creating work on a small scale, in a broad range of media and styles. RAIR Artist Residency at a Recycling Center – Philadelphia

Deadline: October 31   RAIR’s flagship residency program is a unique opportunity for emerging, mid-career and established artists to work at the intersection of art, industry and sustainability. Situated inside a construction and demolition waste recycling company in northeast Philadelphia, RAIR offers artists studio space and access to more than 450 tons of materials per day. RAIR has 2 residency programs: The Standard Residency, a longer, more traditional studio based program, and The Biggie Shortie, a shorter, project based residency. Learn how to apply here.

 

Call for Entry, What A Relief: small relief sculptures , Washington Sculptors Group

Deadline: November 14   This small scale exhibition invites artists to rethink and expand upon the tradition of relief sculpture in contemporary terms. It is open to members of the Washington Sculptors Group only, but artists who are not already members may join WSG by paying annual dues of $45 ($15 for full-time students). Hooper Prize Grant for Artists

Deadline: November 16   The Hopper Prize was established in order to increase the recognition of artwork created by artists and photographers. Our aim is to advance artists’ careers by providing them with unrestricted financial support that is coupled with a platform for increased visibility. We accept submissions twice a year via an open call. We are offering 2 grants in the amount of $3,500 and 4 grants in the amount of $1,000. 2021/2022 National Arts Club Fellowship – New York

Deadline: December 1   The Artist Fellowship provides a select number of artists, working in any one of the disciplines reflected in the NAC’s arts committees, a 18-month Artist Fellowship at the Club, situated in Gramercy Park, New York. Artist Fellows will be provided with complimentary Club participation, providing access to the historic clubhouse, public programs and discounted private overnight rooms. The Artist Fellowship provides opportunities for the recipient to be featured in Club programming and presentations. Learn more here.

 

Call for Artists, The Delaware Contemporary’s Artist Registry – Wilmington, DE

Deadline: August 1, 2022   The Delaware Contemporary’s Artist Registry promotes working artists of our region through exhibitions, residencies, and commissioned projects. The Artist Registry is available to artists within a 250 mile radius of Wilmington, DE and will be the tool by which The Delaware Contemporary will collect, review and select artists for juried and curated exhibitions and projects. By submitting an application for the Artist’s Registry, The Delaware Contemporary will have access to an artist portfolio for the 2021 – 2022 season. During each season, artist portfolios will be regularly reviewed for upcoming opportunities including exhibitions, programs, and special events, as well as selected to be highlighted on the museum’s social media platforms. Call for Submissions, Quilts 4 DC Statehood Challenge – Washington, DC

Deadline: October 15   The Quilts4DC Challenge asks quilters everywhere to share their creativity and lift the message of full representation and voting rights for fellow Americans residing in Washington, D.C. Quilters are invited to create one or more quilts inspired by the theme of DC Statehood. Completed works can be submitted to be part of an online quilt exhibition and selected works have the opportunity to become part of one or more in-person exhibitions. Learn more here.

 

Call for Entry, National Parks of the United States

Deadline: October 17   R Gallery in Boulder, Colorado, is building a permanent online exhibit which will feature images from all 62 US National Parks. Artists are invited to submit original artwork for the “National Parks” exhibit. In this exhibit, we are seeking photographic images, either film or digital, in all styles. Selected artists will give R Gallery the rights to sell prints and artists will receive 50% of the profits for each sale. Call for Entry, Artist Magazine Over 60 Art Competition

Deadline: October 17   Artist Magazine | Artists Network announces a call to artists for the Artist Magazine Over 60 Art Competition. Over $3,000 in total prizes! The Contest is open to artists over the age of 60 working in two dimensions in all traditional art media (e.g., oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, gouache, egg tempera, pen and ink; drawing media such as graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, scratch board, markers, metal point; and two-dimensional collage and fabric art as well). Winter/Spring Benbo Fellowship, Pyramid Atlantic Art Center — Hyattsville, MD

Deadline: October 18   The Denbo Fellowship is designed to offer artists, from a range of artistic disciplines, an environment conducive to individual and collaborative creative practice. 2021 International Alternative Processes, Soho Photo Gallery – New York

Deadline: October 19   Soho Photo Gallery, New York’s longest running cooperative gallery, is excited to announce our 17th International Alternative Processes Competition. Alternative processes include, but are not limited to: Albumen, Cyanotype, Van Dyke Brown, Platinum/Palladium, Gum Bichromate, Bromoil, Salt Print, Tintype, Ziatype, Daguerreotype, Image Transfers, Liquid Emulsion, Photogravure Chemigram as well as handmade prints created from digital negatives.  Traditional Silver Gelatin Prints, C-Prints and Digital Prints are not eligible. This year the Competition will only be featured on our website from December 10th to January 2nd.There will be a reception on December 15th with our juror. Artist Residency, Capitol Hill Arts Workshop — D.C.

Deadline: October 22   Through the Gallery Residency Program, the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) seeks to expand its engagement with artists working in the DMV. The CHAW gallery will, for eight weeks each year, become an incubator space for the selected Resident Artist. During that time, the Artist will transform the gallery while interacting with visitors and students. The Residency provides a well-lit and clean gallery central to the DC area with substantial foot traffic and visibility. CHAW will offer promotion for the Resident Artist, their work and the show. Call for Submissions, 11th Annual Nature Online Art Competition

Deadline: October 27   Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery announces an art call for the gallery’s 11th Annual “Nature” Online Juried Art Competition for the month of October 2021. The gallery invites all 2D and 3D artists (including photography and digital arts) from around the world to make online submissions for possible inclusion in the Gallery’s November 2021 online group art exhibition. Gutierrez Memorial Fund’s Legacy Grant

Deadline: October 31   The Gutierrez Memorial Fund is pleased to present its 2021 Legacy Grant. The project-based arts grant calls for proposals from arts organizations, individual artists, and educators who are residents of Maryland and whose programs or projects serve Maryland communities. 2021 Carelle Women’s Jewelry Association Member Grant

Deadline: October 31   The Women’s Jewelry Association is proud to offer the Carelle Grant in honor of Brooke Tivol McGrath. This is a $7,500 grant intended to support an established jewelry professional (in business for 5-10 years) in innovating their business through technological solutions and advancements, helping to boost sales and streamline operations. Call for Submissions, The Journey of Surprises, Newark Airport Digital Art Exhibition — Newark, NJ

Deadline: October 31   Munich Terminal One LLC and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts (State Arts Council) are pleased to present the Newark Airport Digital Art Exhibition: The Journey of Surprises. This exciting opportunity is accepting submissions from adult visual artists who are current residents of New Jersey (with a priority given to artists from Newark and Elizabeth, NJ). Preference will be given to artists with a strong connection to Newark and/or Elizabeth, but artists from across the State are eligible to submit their work for consideration. Deadline: November 1   Wayne Art Center seeks submissions for the Art Quilt Elements 2022 Exhibition, a juried group exhibition of contemporary fine art quilts. VisArts Next Generation Studio Fellowship — Rockville, MD

Deadline: November 1  VisArts invites applications and proposals from emerging local and national artists for a twelve month Next Generation Studio Fellowship at VisArts in Rockville MD. This Fellowship provides a unique opportunity for a dynamic individual artist or collaborative artist team to create a new body of work, evolve an existing body of work, or develop a project in a stimulating, supportive environment. Studio space is provided free of charge. Artists receive a $500.00 per month stipend. The Next Generation Studio fellow will present their work in a solo exhibition at the end of their respective fellowship. This Fellowship term is from January 2022 – January 2023. VisArts Emerging Curator Program 2022 — Rockville, MD

Deadline: November 1  The VisArts Emerging Curator Program offers a unique opportunity for an emerging curator or artist with an interest in exhibition making or curating to work with an experienced mentoring curator to develop and present an exhibition and to assist in the presentation of the mentor’s exhibition. In an effort to develop expanded education programming/enhanced visitor experiences, the 2022 Emerging Curator and the Mentoring Curator will also focus on developing tools to support public programming that promotes social interaction, creative exchange and audience engagement. Call for Entry, Through a Glass, Darkly, The Delaware Contemporary – Wilmington, DE

Deadline: November 1    Through a Glass, Darkly will be on display at The Delaware Contemporary, September 1 through December 31, 2022, and will include new and recent works by artists working with glass and glass-related materials and processes, exposing the material’s dual nature. This exhibition will span across six galleries and will occupy more than 6,000 square feet. Selected works will engage the historical promise and power of the material to reveal and to bring clarity, while challenging viewers to acknowledge an inherent interconnectedness between enhancement and distortion. For more information, click here.

 

George A. & Eliza Gardner Howard Fellowships in Photography

Deadline: November 1   The Howard Foundation will consider proposals from visual artists working in any genre, style, and media that can be classified as Photography, with regards to still images. In accordance with the fellowship program’s overall goal of supporting early mid-career artists, applicants should have a record of exhibitions and demonstrate a promising program of creative development using photography as a mode of creative expression and experimentation. Call for Entry, Portraits Project, The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C. — D.C.

Deadline: November 2   The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC (GMCW) is seeking artwork to be used as part of the PORTRAITS project to be premiered in June 2024. PORTRAITS will represent through visual art, music, and dance, the spectrum of sexual, gender, racial, ethnic, and cultural identities. Paintings, drawings, and photographs are welcome. The artworks may be a portrait, or a scene depicting an aspect of the human experience, including identity expression and historical references specific to the LGBTQ+ community. Selected artworks will be used as projections as part of a live performance, brought to life aurally by music, and visually by GMCW’s 17th Street Dance ensemble to be presented in June 2024. Deadline: November 5   Fusion Art is once again celebrating women artists with its 19th quarterly online art competition. For the 4th Annual Women Artists art competition, the gallery invites both 2D and 3D submissions from women artists, only, regardless of their location or their experience or education in the art field. Deadline: November 19  In honor of VisArts patrons, Fleur and Charles Bresler, VisArts invites applications and proposals from local, national, and international artists for a four month residency at VisArts in Rockville, Maryland.  This residency provides a unique opportunity for a dynamic individual artist or collaborative artist team to create a new body of work, evolve an existing body of work or develop a project in a stimulating, supportive environment. Keyholder Residency Spring/Summer 2022, Pyramid Atlantic Art Center — Hyattsville, MD

Deadline: December 18   Pyramid Atlantic Art Center’s Keyholder Residency is a competitive opportunity for emerging to mid-career artists who want to have unlimited access to the studios in exchange for working 4 hours a week for Pyramid Atlantic. The residency is awarded to artists who hope to gain more knowledge and improve their skills in the printmaking, papermaking, or book arts studios. Two artists are selected twice a year by the Pyramid Atlantic artistic staff. Studio Internship Summer 2022, Pyramid Atlantic Art Center — Hyattsville, MD

Deadline: February 18, 2022   Pyramid Atlantic offers internship opportunities for enthusiastic, engaged, and serious-minded college or post-college artists. Our interns assist resident artists, renters, artistic staff, with printmaking, papermaking, and book arts projects, and in outreach education programs. In addition to hands-on experience with artistic projects, interns gain an understanding of the day-to-day operation of a non-profit art center and gallery. Pyramid Atlantic Workshop Proposals – Hyattsville, MD

Pyramid Atlantic offers year-round workshops in printmaking, papermaking, book arts, and hybrids thereof. We offer multi-week, daytime, evening, and weekend intensives for adults in our fully equipped studios. As part of a robust and diverse schedule of offerings, we welcome unsolicited workshop proposals, and hope that you will consider applying! 2020 has been dedicated to the Year of the Woman in Maryland. Do you have an inspiring story about vital contributions of women-identifying people who are artists, arts administrators, or cultural workers? Busboys and Poets is looking for submissions from Maryland and Virginia artists as it expands to new locations in both areas. Submissions can include drawings, painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, assemblage, fiber, quilts, etc. Art images reflecting life in the city, family, portraits, whimsy, abstraction, social uplift and life experiences within diverse cultures are encouraged for submission. Alterwork Studios Online Residency

This residency was designed to give emerging contemporary artists an online platform to create new work and explore their practice. Accepting Artwork for Curatorial Review by AIWA

The Alper Initiative for Washington Art features five exhibitions per year in the newly constructed first floor space in the American University Museum. We accept submissions, on a rolling basis,  from Washington artists of all ages and backgrounds, and working in diverse media. The museum’s Director and Curator, Jack Rasmussen, will select curators who will review these submissions for potential use in Alper Initiative exhibitions. For more information click here.

 

Call For Entry Hamilton Arts Collective Guest Artist Exhibition – Baltimore, MD

The Hamilton Arts Collective (HAC) and the Hamilton Gallery seek applications from artists for month-long Guest Artist exhibitions at Hamilton Gallery located at 5502 Harford Road, Baltimore, MD. The selected guest artists will be invited to exhibit a selection of their current work in Gallery I of the Hamilton Gallery. The Guest Artist exhibition is featured in Hamilton Gallery communications and will be promoted by the HAC and Hamilton Gallery. Howard County Arts Council Quarterly Call For Artists – Ellicott City, MD

The Howard County Arts Council gallery program was established to enhance the public’s appreciation of the visual arts, provide a venue to exhibit the work of local, regional, and national artists in a professional space, and provide leadership in the arts by presenting a broad spectrum of arts in all media from both emerging and established artists. Artists, ages 18 and older, working in all media and styles including time-based and installation artists, are encouraged to apply either individually or as a group. The Maryland Art Place (MAP) is working with Hotel Indigo in downtown Baltimore to offer rotating exhibitions in the hotel’s library and Poets Modern Cocktails and Eats restaurant. The Creativity Grant Program State of Maryland (MD)

Deadline: Rolling. The purpose of the Creativity Grant Program is to strengthen the vitality and sustainability of artists and small organizations to maintain a strong and stable arts infrastructure in the State of Maryland. The Creativity Grant also provides opportunities to serve the growing needs of relevant arts projects and collaborations within Maryland communities. Artist/Writers: Cover Art for Academic Medicine

Deadline: Rolling. Submit original works of art inspired by, but not necessarily representative of, an academic medicine experience from any perspective: caregiver, researcher, teacher, learner, or patient (for example, learning how to be a physician or scientist, caring for patients, exploring research questions, making a new discovery, being a research participant, teaching, or being cared for in a teaching hospital). The journal welcomes photography, sculpture, painting, textile work, and other visual media. Images may be cropped or resized to fit into the allotted cover space. Artists must also submit a related Cover Art essay as a narrative companion to the artwork, to explain the connection between the work and the “academic medicine experience.” The related narrative should be 250 to 600 words and is subject to editing. The Awesome Foundation Accepting Applications for Art Projects

Deadline: Open. The Awesome Foundation for the Arts and Sciences is a worldwide network of people devoted to forwarding the interest of “awesomeness in the universe.” Established in 2009, the foundation distributes $1,000 grants on a monthly basis to projects and their creators. The money is pooled from ten or more self-organizing “micro-trustees.” The chapters are autonomous and organized by the trustees around geographic areas or topics of interest. Call for Artists: Maryland Art Place Seeks Proposals for Rotating Exhibition Partnership with Baltimore’s Hotel Indigo (MD)

Deadline: rolling. Maryland Art Place (MAP), in partnership with Hotel Indigo is pleased to announce an open ‘Call to Artists’. As an extension of MAP’s annual IMPACT public art partnership projects, MAP is working with Hotel Indigo to offer rotating exhibitions in Hotel indigo’s library and Poets Modern Cocktails and Eats. Peripheral ARTeries – Biennial Contemporary Art Publication

Deadline: Rolling. Peripheral ARTeries is looking for artists to be featured in the new special Biennial Edition of their art publication, that comes to its 10th edition. This opportunity is great for both established and early career artists who need a boost to their artist portfolio. The 10th edition will once again explore and show current trends and tendencies in Contemporary Art: Peripheral ARTeries cultivates a spirit of openness through a unique collaborative and participatory approach.Each artist may submit a maximum of three works or projects made in any technique: painting, drawing, video art, experimental cinema, fine art photography, experimental media, mixed media, installations, public art, performance. The call is open to all proposed kind of art and media capable of challenging the viewers’ traditional perspective on art itself. To submit, visit the Peripheral ARTeries website.

 

Exhibit at Hotel Indigo (VA)

Artists works will displayed in the hotel’s gallery (220 S Union St, Old Town Alexandria) for a six-month period. Two-dimensional, framed works only. Artists will install the work using the hotel’s mounting hardware. Labels will be provided by the hotel. All sales handled by artist, no commission. Preference for local or locally influenced selections but not required. The space measures approximately 7’10” by 8’3.″ If interested, contact Kate Ellis, General Manager, [email protected].

 

The New Project Studio – Ongoing Opportunity (VA)

Ongoing. Located in Studio 8, the New Project Studio is a community-focused arts incubator space that offers a short-term location to test new program ideas, spotlight underrepresented voices, and enhance community engagement. Deadline: ongoing. Montgomery College, Rockville and Germantown Art Department is seeking proposals for its Artist-in-Residence Program, encouraging proposals that cultivate collaborative work between artists and students.

 

Looking for artists: Foundry Gallery (DC)

Deadline: ongoing. Foundry Gallery is seeking a few artists in the greater Washington, DC area. If interested in applying for membership please send up to five images (jpg attachments) and an email letter to: [email protected]. The oldest cooperative in Washington, the gallery holds monthly solo and members’ group shows at its beautiful space north of Shaw near the 9:30 Club.

Deadline: ongoing. Washington Printmakers Gallery is seeking artist members specializing in printmaking, photography and book arts. An active cooperative for over 30 years, the gallery holds monthly solo and members’ group shows in its lovely space in upper Georgetown. Distant and shared memberships are available.
